Why Podar MUN

Podar Model United Nations is a two-day international relations simulation for middle and high school students which will be held at state level on October 11 and 12, 2019 in Sangli. At Podar MUN, delegates will gain insight into the workings of the United Nations and the dynamics of international relations by assuming the roles of UN representatives and members of other international bodies and national cabinets. This will be an exciting opportunity for students to debate issues that confront world leaders and to draft resolutions in response to these global issues.
The idea of Podar MUN builds upon years of experience and learning. Since 2017, our school held its first annual Model UN at hub level, followed by the participation of school into various National and International level conferences. This year we, team of Podar International School Sangli, would like to expand the conference by conduction on State level and involve all students with immense potential and opportunity for engagement of Podar Network.
Podar MUN will focus on the in-depth examination and resolution of pressing issues, emphasizing process over product. During the conference, students learn the importance of balancing national interests with the needs of the international community, while also learning about the powers and limitations of international negotiation. Delegates will preserve their countries’ national policy while negotiating in the face of other, sometimes conflicting, international policies.
Our Theme: ‘Balance for Better’
The theme ‘Balance for Better’ of our conference is inspired by United Nation theme for International Women’s Day 2019. The theme has brought the thought to focus on ways of creating a more gender-balanced society. Recognizing women’s achievements certainly helps when it comes to raising awareness for gender equality, especially in industries that are primarily male dominated. But, we firmly believe the world today not only needs gender balance, but also the balance between masses and minority, stability between ancient and new, sense of balance between countries, equilibrium between growth and nature. Model UN is a unique activity in that participants must learn to work together rather than compete against one another in order to be successful. To that end, our conference theme is will help delegates to hone their ability to cross cultural divides, build friendships and a state of balance which will last long after conference ends.
